Physical items are found in various shelving areas throughout the library.
Books can be found in the following locations:
- Stacks. This is the most common location found in the main part of the collection. The circulation period is four (4) weeks with up to four (4) renewals.
- New - Books. These are either current bestsellers or newly purchased, found on a specific set of shelves near the circulation desk. The circulation period is two (2) weeks with up to two (2) renewals.
- Oversize. These require a different shelving configuration because they are larger in some way, and are found on the bottom shelves below audiobooks. The circulation period is four (4) weeks with up to four (4) renewals.
- Legacy. These outdated items were kept for various reasons, but do not represent the current status in their respective fields of study. They are found in small movable shelves above the main stacks. The circulation period is four (4) weeks with up to four (4) renewals.
- Reference. These are typically items such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, or drug guides, and are found behind the new/bestseller area. These cannot be checked out, but small portions may be copied.
- Reserves. These items are set aside for specific audiences, usually current students in specific classes, or specific faculty or staff.
Media can be found in the following locations:
- Media - Video and Media - CD. These are the most common media locations, and are found on shelving at the perimeter of the library. The circulation period is two (2) weeks with up to two (2) renewals.
- Media - Course. These Great Courses DVD (sometimes CD) sets are found in a section of shelving near the staff cubicles. The circulation period is twelve (12) weeks and renewable at the library's discretion.
Current Nicolet students may inquire about electronic items such as laptops and cameras at the Bookstore, located on the second floor of the Lakeside Center at the center of the curvy desk.
